Why didn't anyone honor the groundhog on Monday? I didn't see a single post about Punxsatawney Phil. What's up with that?
Should I turn my feed reader display onto a partial-feed, so that when people read my blog in their reader, they only get part of it? Then they'd have to click through (increasing traffic for me) to read the whole post. OR they may get annoyed and just skip reading my post altogether (not so much helpful for the stats). What do you think? Do partial feeds in your reader annoy you? Or do they make you want to click through to the page?
I totally missed True Beauty on Monday night. I'm so mad. Does anyone know... who got the axe?
My St. Louis gal-pal Brigett is a Girl Scout leader. They are selling cookies right now, just like us. One of the girls in her troop wants to earn an iPod Nano, the prize for selling 1000 boxes of cookies. However, she's sold only 100. So the mom? Is ordering 900 more boxes. No, she doesn't have to pay for them upfront (against the GSUSA rules). 900 boxes of cookies, times $3.50 per box, equals $3150 cost. I sure hope she can sell them all, considering it would have been a lot cheaper (and easier) to just BUY her kid an iPod. What do you think of that?

You missed my blog on Monday about Phil and Jenni Jiggety mentioned him too.
As far as feed reader, it's 6 of one half a dozen of another.
I don't read mine through my reader so it doesn'treally matter to me.
Umm, girl scout mom, that's just crazy. I hope she can sell them all!
I don't read my through the reader either.
And the GS cookie mom? I would have a serious tummy ache about that one! I had to order a couple cases of each to sell at the Booth Sales and I was a nervous wreck about that!!
I don't want to pay for ALL the ones we don't sell!! EEK!!
Seriously, that mom's a moron. Just buy the ipod. Keep the USA from eating that many cookies!
If it's interesting enough I click thru- if not, I don't. I don't care whether it's done or not, and it wouldn't affect my clicking.
But I have always wondered what feed readers look like to traffic counters. I do everything in a feed.
Well, except comment ;)
Regarding feed reader, I'm still open to initiate experiments. But I think, if you plan to make your post brief, it is always better to provide full details. Personally, I like to read the complete post in feed, and if it sounds interesting, I move on to post a comment.
I use a reader and I think 1/2 are full and 1/2 are intros. I'd say that 95% of the time, I end up at the site. That's probably because I have a comment addiction though.
Seriously? Over $3000? That's more than I've ever paid for a car. LOL That woman is lacking in common sense.
Sorry, no clue on True Beauty.
I ROCKED when I was a Brownie selling Girl Scout cookies. My parents would see them at work and my Dad worked for the state. I never had a problem selling them. Now I just buy them from others because I am still addicted to the little suckers. But I don't think I would ever buy that many boxes no matter what. I would have just bought the iPod. :)
That girl scout cookie mom has lost her mind. Her kids have killed all her brain cells. What a shame......
On Google Reader, there's some that I read on there, but most I go to the page (the bright colors and pretty decorated pages cheer me up), but I guess that might just be me.
True Beauty, go now to
http://abc.go.com/player/index?pn=index
And you can watch the whole thing!! These things have become my Tivo/DVR. And for after you find out...I TOTALLY think the wrong person got the axe!!
She'll be doing that kid's college entrance essays too.
or maybe they will sit at a table and sell them at the grocery store.
Gee, I sure wish I had some eggnog left. Thin mints and egg nog...oh my
wow! i thought i was crazy buying un-yummy cub scout popcorn just so my son could "earn" a $10 lego set.
I never read through the reader because then I can't see adorable backgrounds like yours!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog on my special SITS day!
I saw a few groundhog day posts but the whole thing is just depressing, really. It is still going to be a frozen turd over here.
I don't like click-throughs! In fact, my absolute favorite is when there is a comment LINK in the feed!! So I can click through straight to the comments page!
Do you use Feedburner at all? I think Feedburner (or maybe it was Google Analytics) that could tell me how many people read my post in their Reader. That was fantastic.
The ipod thing is insane.
I'll admit I don't like partial feeds. I scan in my reader and try to comment as much as I can, but if I'm short on time, I skip the partial feeds.
Can't stand partial feeds and MUCH less likely to click on through.
i don't like the partial feeds either! too much trouble, but i do try to comment often.
and holy crap on the 1000 boxes of girl scout cookies! i think i would have come up with another way for my kid to earn an ipod...like by doing chores or something that wouldn't cause me to get an ulser!
um I dont like partial feeds, they annoy me. But i usually just run through the blogs I read when I want to I am not subscribed to many at all...
the girl scout mom...well all I can say is I really hope she can sell them!
Jennifer at playgroups are no place for children wrote a whole post once on the full feed versus partial feed. Honestly, a lot of research has been done on this, but I think the full feed is the way to go especially if you are a good enough write - you are - and if your readers read a lot of other blogs - they probably do. I skip my partial feeds a lot more than my full feeds.
KEEP BELIEVING
I like having my RSS feed just show the first 2 or so sentences. That way the loyal reader can get an idea and click through without having to re-read much at all.
